It’s no doubt that it’s been a challenging year for both parents and students as we go shifting to more online programs and lessons this current school year. While there are some challenges ahead of us, we know that there are more creative and efficient ways for us to help busy parents and their children in terms of their growth.

More so, our experts here at Learning Links Academy have been able to conduct a quick survey asking 10 parents about these interesting changes when it comes to their child’s learning and the results provide a glimpse into what learning at home looks like for these students and their parents.
1. Videoconference goes beyond internet connection
Parents reported that video conferencing was being used for many learning activities, including:
- Covering new class materials
- Checking in on progress of their kids
- Helping with schoolwork of their kids
- Connecting with classmates, teacher and co-parents
- Expedite process of enrolling including one-on-one consultation
- Seeking advice from remote class experts
2. Challenges in attention spans of their kids
According to child psychologists, kids can typically focus on a task for two to five minutes per year of life (for example, 16-40 minutes for an eight-year-old). Younger kids need shorter instructions and work periods. Everyone needs built-in breaks. (How to Help Children with Common Problems By Charles E. Schaefer, Howard L. Millman · 1994).
It’s more likely that when we’re talking with parents they understand that the attention space of their kids can be a bit challenging especially when taking online classes.
3. Their Kids are learning new ways to learn
Based on the respondents, 70% of their students now have online learning experience. It’s either self-phase by watching youtube videos that they find engaging yet entertaining and it will probably increase more post-COVID-19.
They are also learning new ways to stay connected, with 8 out of 10 now using videoconference to connect with teachers, classmates and relatives within or outside the country.
