Everyone wants to start out the year with a strong mind, but finishing it strong is also an important and vital part to really achieve our goals for this year. In order to build mental strength you have to do exercises so you can help build those habits and beliefs along the way.
One of the best ways to build mental strength is to find habits and small tips throughout the day to keep your energy high, mind-set positive, and help develop habits and skills which will help move you forward and keep you feeling good about what you’re doing. Meanwhile, make sure that you’re building your mental strength in a way which won’t leave you feeling exhausted and overwhelmed.
Boost yourself up for a mentally stronger and happier year by applying a few of these tips:
1. Understanding your emotions
Your dominant thought often dictates the end result! Meaning, if you think you’re going to fail, you have already convinced yourself you will. Avoid this mind-set and replace this negative thought with, I will do this! It’s the power of positive thinking that will give you the best chance to succeed in your course and ultimately get you closer to your dreams.
2. Take note of the positive aspects of every Challenge
Taking a course or achieving your dreams starts with your narrative. Change your narrative and you can change how you take every challenge and turn that into a new learning experience. You can do this by building up your positive mental strength using writing. Try to write positive aspects and things you could be learning from the challenges and try your best to find something to be grateful about every single day.
3. Practice More Gratitude and Less Complaining
If you complain a lot it affects you and the people you surround yourself with. It can make you hard to be around as well, and it also can take quite a toll on your mental health. Instead of just endlessly complaining about a situation, try and find something to be grateful about for whatever situation you are in right now.
4. Develop your firmness on your values
Our values are the compass for our decisions. But oftentimes, we find ourselves in situations where these values are compromised. To have a strong mind you have to be flexible in dealing with people, but be also firm on your values. You should know the difference between the two. Having a strong mind is also a means of willingness to lose a relationship that does not uphold your values.
5. Develop the habit of sleeping with a minimum of 8 hours
You’ve probably seen small children lose their mind when they are too tired. Adults are the same way too, only we don’t usually end up eventually passed out in the middle of our dinner plate. When you’re too tired, you make poor quality decisions, your mental strength goes down, and your body responds by increasing it’s stress hormones. Make sleep a priority to help you stay mentally strong.
